What is Jasper.ai?

Jasper is a generative AI platform that helps businesses to create all different kinds of content, like blog articles, video scripts, and social media posts.

On the homepage, Jasper says they’ve helped teams create tailored content up to 10x faster, and they’re already helping 100,000+ clients globally, including some huge businesses like Volvo and HarperCollins.

One of the biggest USPs of Jasper is that it can learn to write in your specific brand voice. There’s a fun example of this on their homepage:

Jasper.ai’s background

Like all great inventions, Jasper was built out of necessity. The founders of Jasper, Dave Rogenmoser, Chris Hull, and J. P. Morgan (seen below in an incredible publicity image) were running a marketing agency and started thinking about the most common pain points they came across.

And so they moved towards being a software company that created product-focused tools to help solve these pain points. After creating and selling a couple of tools, they had the idea for Jasper.

In an episode of the podcast The Fighting Entrepreneur, Dave Rogenmoser said: “We had the idea to use AI to write content because we were struggling with it and people just want to write better content, and Jasper was a technical solution that could just make that far, far easier.”

Jasper is based on an open-source technology that you’ve probably heard of called GPT-3! And it uses natural language processing and machine learning to create tailored content that’s almost always unique.

Who is Jasper.ai for?

Jasper can be used by anyone, from an aspiring entrepreneur trying to launch a business from their bedroom to a Fortune 500 company.

The tool has collected lots of reviews from current customers and by scanning these it’s easy to see the value that Jasper can bring to a whole host of different users across different industries.

“For two weeks I was dragging my feet on copy for our new website. After 2 days with Jasper it was done.” – Lauren Andrews, Founder at Unicorn Exchange

“I’m really bad at writing copy. In the first 30 minutes of using it, Jasper created copy that blew anything I’ve ever written out of the water. I’m gobsmacked at the speed at which it was created too. More importantly, it was extremely relevant and on point for my product. This tool will revolutionise the industry.” – Steve Trister, Founder at The Speaking Revolution

“My audience is mostly indie podcasters who love tools to help them create and improve content, and that’s why I love to promote Jasper to them. Already, I’ve had conversations on Facebook and with some clients showing how well Jasper does at improving their podcast descriptions.” – Daniel Lewis, Founder at The Audacity to Podcast

“This tool is awesome. I’ve banged out more content in the past 24hrs than I did for the rest of the entire month. Posts, website content updates, client ads, and LinkedIn articles.” – Chris Hallewell, Owner at Hot Solutions

All of these reviews are from this page on Jasper.ai.

It’s great that Jasper is already being used by so many people for all kinds of use cases, and it’s also helpful when people share concrete figures and statistics that show just how much an AI tool has helped them.

Jasper.ai’s user experience

After creating an account with Jasper, you’ll land on your dashboard and from here you can go in a couple of different directions to help you get started on content creation.

One of the best places to start is the ‘Brand Voice’ tab. Here you can give Jasper more information about your brand voice so that it not only writes content that fits your style but also understands the context of your content.

Jasper.ai

If you already have existing content then Jasper makes this really easy for you. You just need to enter the URL of your site and Jasper will scan it to learn how to write like you.

Getting started on a new piece of content is easy too. All you need to do is click the blue button in the top left-hand corner, and select the type of content you want to create.

Jasper.ai

From there, all you need to do is give Jasper a little bit of information about what you want to create, including a description of the content, some information on tone of voice, and any keywords you want to target.

You can even select the output length, choosing between a short, medium, or long piece of content. Then just hit compose!

Jasper.ai

Jasper will write the content out before your very eyes. The software pauses every now and then to give you a chance to read the content and make sure you’re happy. Just hit the ‘Compose’ button to prompt the AI tool to keep writing.

You can also edit your content like you would in any word processing tool, adding header tags, hyperlinks, and formatting the text however you like.

And you can even ask Jasper to make edits for you by running a command:

Jasper.ai

There’s also a templates section that can give you more of a starting point for your content. There are tons of templates for all different industries and use cases. We tested one out for social media engagement.

Jasper.ai

After giving Jasper just a couple of prompts, the software was able to instantly generate 15 questions that could be used to spark new ideas for social media content:

Jasper.ai

Jasper couldn’t be more user friendly! Every section is really clear for beginners from the moment you land on the platform, and it’s great fun to explore the software and discover new ways to make it work for your business.

Jasper.ai’s features

One thing we haven’t touched on yet is Jasper’s chat feature. If you’re familiar with Chat GPT, it’s very similar.

You can simply type anything you want into the chat box and Jasper will instantly respond in a helpful way. This can be something as small as asking for some synonyms to help you write better:

Jasper.ai

Or as large as asking Jasper to write you a 3,000 word eBook about any topic of your choice!

Jasper.ai

The sky really is the limit with this.

Another handy feature of Jasper is the Chrome extension that allows you to edit your content from wherever you like to work. And the Surfer integration that helps you level up your SEO.

Aside from written content, Jasper can also generate imagery for any use case. You can enter a written prompt and give other helpful indications, like the mood you want the image to provoke and any inspirations:

Jasper.ai

You can also upload an image to give Jasper something to work from.

Jasper.ai

The image prompt doesn’t seem to be as effective as simply giving Jasper a written description of what you want. Some of the results can be pretty weird (see above!) but this is still a super impressive feature that can generate original artwork for you in seconds.

Pros & cons of Jasper.ai

We thought it would be interesting to see what Jasper has to say about this. So we typed “What are the pros and cons of Jasper.ai?” into the chat feature, and the following is what the tool responded with:

As an AI writing assistant, Jasper.ai has its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Here are some pros and cons of using Jasper.ai:

Pros:

1. Saves time: Jasper.ai can write creative and engaging content quickly, which can save a lot of time for users who need to produce quality content on a regular basis.

2. Versatile: Jasper.ai can write social media posts, tweets, blog posts, short stories and more, making it a versatile tool for content creation.

3. Consistent: Jasper.ai’s proprietary AI model ensures consistency in writing style and tone, which can be useful for maintaining brand voice across multiple platforms.

4. Cost-effective: Jasper.ai is a cost-effective solution for businesses or individuals who cannot afford to hire a full-time writer.

Cons:

1. Limited human touch: As an AI writing assistant, Jasper.ai does not have the empathy and creativity of a human writer, which can lead to lacklustre or generic content.

2. Limited context: Jasper.ai works within the parameters provided by users, which means it can miss important nuances or context of a particular topic.

3. Not a support bot: Jasper.ai cannot help with account-related issues or execute physical tasks like sending emails or contacting people.

4. Language limitations: Jasper.ai is currently only available in English, which can be a disadvantage for users who require content in other languages.

Overall, Jasper.ai can be a helpful tool for content creation, but it should be used in conjunction with human input to ensure high-quality, engaging content.

As you can see, this answer appears to be pretty unbiased – which is a big MUST for an AI content generator. And this actually serves as a great example of how quickly and competently Jasper can write content. We got this response instantly, and not one word of the above italicised section has been edited by a human.

Jasper.ai pricing plans

Jasper.ai has 3 pricing plans: Creator, Teams, and Business. All plans offer unlimited words generated by AI, and the first two plans offer users a 7 day free trial to get started.

Jasper.ai pricing plans

Creator is $39 per month when billed yearly and is suggested for freelancers, marketers, and entrepreneurs. On this plan, you can teach Jasper to write in one brand voice and get up to 50 memories – which allows the platform to remember specific details about your products, services, and audiences so that it can write factually about your business.

Teams is $99 per month when billed yearly and is suggested for small businesses who need to generate content for multiple campaigns and business outcomes. This plan offers up to 150 memories and 3 brand voices, plus 3 users included. You can also add up to 7 additional users for $49 per month for each additional user (if your account is billed annually).

Business is the plan you’ll need if you have 10 or more users. The Business plan is for organisations that need a secure, scalable, and customisable AI platform that can align to their team’s technical needs. This plan operates on custom pricing, so you’ll have to contact Jasper’s sales team to find out what the specific cost would be for your business.

Jasper.ai’s main competitors

There seem to be more and more AI tools popping up every day, and because Jasper is based on the open source GPT-3 software, there’s an argument to be had that Chat GPT itself is a competitor for Jasper.

However, here we’re going to take a look at the tools that are most similar to Jasper.ai in the AI content generation space: WordTune and Copy AI.

WordTune is an AI-powered writing companion that can help you to rewrite your existing content.

WordTune

All you need to do is paste your content into WordTune and the AI will offer you a selection of different ways to say what you want to say.

WordTune

Copy AI is an AI-powered copywriter. So instead of rewriting things for you like WordTune, Copy AI can write content from scratch, more like Jasper.

Copy.ai

With Copy AI, you need to enter the type of content you want to create, the main points you want to cover, and the tone of voice you want to use. The AI then generates something unique for you.

Both platforms have their merits but they don’t seem as powerful as Jasper, or to have as many features. One great thing about them though is that they both offer free plans, so you can take them for a test drive and see what you think!

Jasper.ai’s customer support

For a relatively new tool, Jasper has some surprisingly robust customer support.

There’s a Facebook community with almost 100,000 members sharing their tips on using AI for everyday business outcomes.

Jasper.ai Facebook page

There’s tons of video content that can be used for onboarding and basic training to help you get the most out of the tool.

They also have a help centre where you can search for documentation related to specific issues that you might come across and want to solve:

Jasper.ai help centre

And finally, of course, you can always contact the customer support team directly if you need more help.

Unlike some tools that make it difficult to get in touch, Jasper makes things super easy. All you need to do is click Learn along the top bar and then ‘contact support’:

Jasper.ai

From there, their email address is front and centre – making it painless to get in touch. There’s also information that informs customers they can expect a response in 4-8 hours.

We tested out Jasper’s support and actually got a response just over 3 hours later, so ahead of schedule!

The response was really to-the-point and also included a helpful screenshot.

Jasper.ai: Final score

Our rating
Jasper.ai is a pretty cool AI tool for helping you be more productive when it comes to content creation.

With AI becoming more easily accessible to everyone, it’s soon going to be a necessity for business owners to use AI in order to keep up in fast-paced industries – especially when it comes to marketing.
