What is Motion Array?

Motion Array is an all-in-one marketplace for video creators, featuring everything needed to create stunning video content, from stock assets to templates, presets, and plugins.

Here’s a great video ad that describes the platform in 30 seconds:

Motion Array was founded by Tyler Williams and Eri Levin in 2013, and acquired by Artlist in 2020 for $65 million.

The platform offers members access to over 800,000 assets that they can use in their videos, including music, images, stock footage, and more.

Who is Motion Array for?

Motion Array is for content creators of any size – from individuals to huge companies. If you’re looking to create high quality videos in a quick, easy, and affordable way, then Motion Array is for you!

While some of Motion Array’s biggest clients include the likes of Disney, Netflix, Sony, and Adobe, the platform is also suitable for smaller creators, like YouTubers and freelance animators or video editors.

Motion Array can also be used by businesses who want to make videos for their clients as most assets are completely cleared for commercial use at no extra cost.

Motion Array’s library of assets

As already mentioned, Motion Array has an impressive library of over 800,000 assets. These are split across different categories and in this section we wanted to take a look at each type of asset in turn to find out more about the Motion Array library.

Templates

Motion Array offers a wide range of easy-to-use and super impressive templates for whatever kind of software you use and whatever kind of video you’re making.

It’s easy to toggle between different templates and filter your search to find exactly what you’re looking for:

Here’s just one amazing example with 25 text placeholders and 3 media placeholders, making it easy to personalise to fit your video topic and match your brand style:

Motion Array’s templates cover everything from intros, to logo reveals, smooth transitions, and more.

Presets

Presets give you the power to make professional-looking videos quickly and easily. Presets are essentially predefined edits that have been saved for use in editing software, like After Effects or Premiere Pro.

Presets can cover all different things, from transitions to colour grades, backgrounds, or overlays. Here’s an example of one of the presets available on Motion Array:

It’s easy to see just how valuable presets like this can be, not only shaving hours off your editing process but also elevating your videos to give them a better chance of standing out.

Audio

Motion Array also has tons of royalty-free music and sound effects on offer. It’s easy to find the perfect soundtrack by using the filters along the left-hand side. Users can filter by BPM, duration, and genre, and also check out Staff Picks to find out what’s popular.

You can listen to and compare tracks from the main audio page. When you find one you like, all you need to do is click on it and hit the download button, it couldn’t be easier!

Video

In addition to video templates and presets, Motion Array also offers a wide range of high quality stock footage. It’s easy to filter your search to find exactly what you’re looking for, or you can use the search bar at the top of the page:

You can also preview videos right from the results page, which is a nice touch if you have a lot of footage to look for!

Videos range in quality, from 2K to 4K, and even 5K+. You can also narrow your search down by orientation, which is perfect if you’re making videos for social media and need a square or vertical clip.

Images

The stock image section of Motion Array is very similar to the video section. You can explore their huge catalogue of images, including vector illustrations, high quality photographs, mockups, and more.

The filters section is really intuitive, so you can drill right down and find exactly what you’re looking for in this huge library.

When you click into a specific image, you can find out more information about it, such as file type, dimensions, and the colour model.

Plugins

In addition to all of the above, Motion Array also offers subscribers access to dozens of professional Premiere Pro plugins.

These plugins, once downloaded and installed, are built right into your editing software. This gives you access to impressive transitions and lighting looks, plus different filters and effects that can really take your videos to the next level.

The plugins are available to preview on the site and just by clicking through a couple it’s instantly easy to see the value they would add to your video editing process.

Motion Array’s user experience

Motion Array is really easy to navigate. If you know what type of asset you’re looking for then you can click on the appropriate header, or you can search for whatever you need from any page on the site using the search bar at the top of the page:

The platform also has a Learn hub that offers tutorials and resources to help video creators improve their skills.

There isn’t much more to say on the user experience that we haven’t already covered. The platform is super intuitive and it’s really easy to find exactly what you need.

Expert Tip
Bookmark Favourites – You can save time by bookmarking your go-to assets and categories in Motion Array, speeding up your future projects.

Motion Array: Licensing

Motion Array likes to keep things clear and simple, which can be a real blessing when it comes to licensing assets for your video content.

All of the assets on Motion Array – whether stock footage, audio, or images – are covered by their “Standard Universal License”. This means that regardless of the type, size or distribution of your project, you’re covered to use the assets you downloaded as a paying member.

There aren’t even any extended licenses or special permissions required for larger productions, like feature film releases and broadcast video. Pretty much everything falls under the Standard Universal License and can be used for any commercial or personal project.

In rare instances, some assets are for editorial use only, but this is clearly labelled on the page:

Also, of course you can’t use the assets to re-sell them in the same way that Motion Array does. A pretty understandable restriction!

You don’t need to worry about what will happen to your videos if you decide to cancel your Motion Array account. The projects that you complete as a paid member will remain covered forever.

Pros & cons of Motion Array

Pros: 1. The library is incredible
Motion Array’s library is huge! It’s got every single kind of asset you could possibly want as a video creator, all in one place.
2. Easy to use
On top of having a huge library of assets, the platform is also super easy to navigate so it doesn’t feel overwhelming. You can quickly find what you need either through their search functionality or intuitive filters.
3. Great customer support
The Help Centre is vast and includes lots of helpful articles that use media, like images and videos, to break down explanations and make it easy to understand how individual parts of Motion Array work. There’s also the opportunity to reach out to a member of the support team if you’re still struggling.
Cons: 1. Limited assets on the free plan
As with many content creation platforms that specialise in providing assets, you only get access to so much for free. This can limit your creative options if you need to be budget-conscious while working on projects.
2. Templates and presets can’t be purchased individually
Although the subscription models offer a generous range of templates and presets to choose from, if you’re just working on a handful of projects then this won’t matter to you. This limitation can be seen as a negative if you don’t have the need or funds to commit to a subscription model.

Motion Array: Pricing

Motion Array’s pricing is pretty simple. If you’re an individual then you can choose whether you want to pay monthly or annually, and if you’re part of a team then there’s a separate package for you.

Both the individual and team plans offer the same benefits, as you can see in the image above. Every plan includes: unlimited downloads, license to use anywhere, new assets added daily, exclusive Adobe extension, and a video collaboration tool.

It’s not overtly advertised but there’s also a free plan, if you want to just try Motion Array out for size before committing to a plan.

The free plan gives users access to almost 500,000 assets (so not quite the full library, but close enough!), and that includes access to custom and curated collections. There’s also live chat and email support, but that’s limited. And access to some plugins and extensions, but again, those are also limited.

Motion Array’s customer support

If you find yourself stuck on Motion Array, they have an easy-to-navigate Help Centre where users can self-troubleshoot issues by reading detailed articles that often include videos and screenshots to help thoroughly explain how certain features work:

You can also search for specific keywords to find useful articles. When you reach the end of an article, Motion Array asks if your question has been answered, and you can click one of the emojis in response. Clicking the sad face emoji will automatically open up a chat window that starts a conversation in a way that’s specific to your issue:

Pretty neat!

Here you can write your query, leave your email address, and wait for a response from a team member.

Motion Array: Final score

Our rating
Motion Array is a great platform for people making video content in any capacity, whether that’s for your own business, as a hobbyist, or for clients.  The platform has lots of assets on offer and all for a simple and low monthly cost. If you’re looking to elevate your video marketing game, then you should definitely give Motion Array a try!
