If you’re brand new to video marketing…

Here at Wyzowl, we love to introduce people to the wonderful and wacky world of video marketing. In fact, we specialise in it!
Creating the first video for your business can be an exciting process. But, with all great marketing strategies: you gotta spend money to make money. What you don’t want to be spending money on, however, is making mistakes. No one likes to make mistakes — particularly the expensive kind.
So, in this blog we’re going to tell you the five things you need to know if you’re brand new to video marketing…
1. Entertain whilst Educating
And there’s no better way to do this than with video! The reason being: video is set up for story telling and humans are hard wired for stories. It’s something we’ve been doing for hundreds of years, science even says stories are what help us to understand the things we need to learn.
This is exactly why you need video in your marketing strategy. To teach your audience about your product or service, and if you can do it with an entertaining story, you’re almost guaranteed to win them over. A good example of this is from Chipotle…

2. Length is Important
Did you know that scientists now reckon our attention span is shorter than a goldfish? They say it’s now about 8.25 seconds long! Yikes!
Based on this shocking fact you can see why we’ve included this in the important things you need to know. If you’re going to get your audiences attention you need to avoid making your video too long and your key, attention grabbing point needs to be in the first 10 seconds or so.
Beyond that point we would then suggest that your video be between 1 — 2 minutes long, the ideal being about 1 minute 30 seconds. However, it does all depend on the video type, so for more information on this have a look at our other blog ‘How Long Should my Video be?‘
3. Make the complicated simple
If your product or service is difficult to understand and the written explanation takes up pages and pages on your website, then a video is perfect. Use an animated video for maximum effectiveness.
Break down the process into what problem your customers have, what your product or service is, and how it can help solve their problem.

4. A Call to Action is Important.
So you have an entertaining video, that educates your audience, in a reasonable space of time, and it explains your complicated product or service.
Now what you need is to make sure you include a call to action which tells your audience what they need to do next. This can be to visit your website, sign up, or get in touch if they’re interested. You also need to make it obvious, so as well as saying what you want them to do, it would be advisable to also include a visual; this can be as simple as the website address or number to call, or include a button that they can click, taking them directly to a landing page.
5. Promotion is crucial — spread the word!
Once your video is created you then need to spend time on the promotion of it, otherwise your efforts to make a video will have been a waste of time.
There are many ways to get your video seen by the audience you want and below are a few of the best ideas…
- Write a blog to go with your video, rather than just uploading it straight to your homepage.
- Share it on your social sites and encourage your followers to share it too.
- Use it in emails to people already in your database and, again, encourage them to share it too.
- Outreach to influencers.
- And, if you have the budget, a little bit of advertising would be a good boost for your video.
There are many benefits to video marketing, in fact, according to comScore, 64% of website visitors are more likely to buy a product or service after watching a video.
